 Members are Missionaries Handout 2[1].doc

Fr. Mark's Announcements for Thursday, July 21, 2011

1) Last Sunday I handed out a short piece on working in our own "mission fields" and we enjoyed the second of four talks by our own members on the subject. Attached is the handout. If you haven't already, will you take 5 minutes today to read this interesting piece? I am convinced the author is on to something.

2) Every Wednesday at 12:15 a small group of us gather in the sanctuary for an informal Eucharist. Our readings are chosen from "Holy Women, Holy Men," and each week we celebrate the mostly ordinary people who have lived lives of extraordinary vision, faith, and courage, and give us hope that we, too, might do great things. Rather than a sermon we have a conversation. If you are available, I invite you to come any Wednesday and join with our little group. We begin at 12:15PM and are finished by 1:00PM.

3) As you know, we were recently contacted by the owners of the property directly east of the church about a possible purchase of that 2.8 acre lot. As of this writing, the property is not on the market while the sellers decide on the best way to list it. If it does become available, we will again look into the possibility of trying to acquire this land for future development, but right now, nothing is happening. I am very interested in your thoughts on this. We had an open vestry meeting right after church three weeks ago and got the general sense that the parish is in favor of proceeding if the price is fair, and that is the position of both the Finance Committee and Vestry. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, I would love to hear them. Just email me at frmark@sainta.net or call the church or my cell 402-709-4876.

Office Announcements:

Hi Folks,

I’d like to put together a tool box and miscellaneous supplies to keep at the Church in the store room.  If you’re like me, you probably have some extra screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, etc., that you may not be using or don’t need. .. And maybe an old tool box to put them in… A small battery powered drill would be nice J ...Also a collection of screws, nails, bolts, etc…anything you have to donate would be appreciated!

Thank You!  - Don Hoes

1]  School will be starting before you know it and the annual “Backpack Giveaway” for school children of COPE clients is underway.  St. Augustine’s has been asked to donate red “checking” pens, No. 2 pencils, and 1.5 inch 3-ring binders.  The items you donate can be placed in the designated boxes in the narthex of the church.  Thank you for your generous support of COPE and its commitment to assisting families in Western Douglas County.

2]  I queried the parish recently for people who might be interested in joining a ‘knitting group” to help make blankets and other items for COPE.  We are not just looking for knitters.  We are looking for people who would like to join a group of “crafters” or “crafter wannabe’s” who will gather to sew, knit, tie knots in fleece, talk, and share talents to create items for COPE and possibly other organizations in need.  You do not need to know how to sew or knit or crochet.  (We do have volunteers who will teach knitting if you would like to learn.)  If you are interested, please contact the office: Parish@sainta.net, and we’ll start planning our first get-together.

3]  The golf tournament is just a couple of weeks away!  Please have your completed registration forms and payment in the parish office by August 1st.  Don’t forget to register.  Fun, a four-person scramble format, more fun, food, and prizes—what more could you ask for?  (Well, we could ask Fr. Mark to pray for your golf game to improve but we cannot guarantee any miracles!)  J

Have a great weekend!
